A dog describes life in her point of view from birth to adulthood. The main storyteller is a Presbyterian named Aileen Mavourneen, her mother is a Collie; and her father is a St. Bernard. In the story the Presbyterian has grown and is adopted to a new home. The house was owned by a woman named Mrs and Mr Gray who also have a baby. The house had rich furniture, decorations and a laboratory where scientists including Mr. Gray, would work and experiment. Life for Aileen was almost perfect; she would watch the baby in her crib one day, or keep company for the mistress on another. Aileen even had a large open space to run and play with other dogs. One day she met another dog who was a Presbyterian just like her and they became close, and even had a puppy.
